Wake County to hold final community meeting on Eastern Wake Area Plan Plan will help shape the area over the next decade Wake County is offering residents another opportunity to weigh in on how the Eastern Wake area will grow and develop over the next 10 years. Planners will hold an interactive, in-person meeting from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Eastern Regional Center in Zebulon. The Eastern Wake Area Plan focuses on a 46,000-acre area of northeastern Wake County. Approximately 16,000 people live in this 72-square-mile area, which is bordered by Franklin, Johnston and Nash counties. When complete, the plan will help determine the future of the area’s built environment — including homes, buildings, roads, open spaces, farms and infrastructure. “This is another great way for residents interested in the Eastern Wake area to play an active role in the development of this plan,” said Don Mial, vice chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “In order for the plan to successfully reflect the needs, values and vision of the people who live and work there, we need to hear from as many people as possible.” This is the fifth of seven areas being studied as part of PLANWake, the County’s comprehensive planning effort. Previous plans have been completed for the Lower Swift Creek,Middle Creek, Lower Neuse and Western Wake areas.
Get Involved This final community meeting is one of many ways residents have been able to engage with staff on the draft plan. Planners held a virtual meeting in March and an in-person meeting in April. People were also asked to provide feedback on an online interactive map. Can’t attend the June 26 meeting?
