Boys & Girls Club: Note on Reopening
"Serving our families since Clubs have closed…
On March 20, 2020, the Boys & Girls Clubs closed its programs enjoyed by almost 1,000 children and teens daily. Closing was difficult but necessary to protect our Members, their families, and the community at large from the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Our staff have kept in touch with kids and parents, provided daily educational and health-focused virtual programs, celebrated high school graduations, and assisted families in their need. Staff have also engaged in numerous training opportunities to hone their youth development skills. Our staff have surely personified the phrase “Whatever It Takes” to ensure Great Futures for Wake County’s deserving young people. Making these services possible have been our DONORS, who have enabled the Clubs to provide meals, groceries, learning supplies, and other basic needs to any Member-family in need.
Looking forward to the day when kids are back in our Clubs…
On June 22, our Executive Committee approved a recommendation from our Safety Committee to re-open our Clubs on Monday, July 6th. While the plan calls for limited Member attendance (maximum of 50 at each Club location on any day), and other protocols put in place to protect Club Members and staff, everyone associated with our Boys & Girls Clubs – Board Members, Community Volunteers, staff, parents and, most importantly, Club Members – is excited about re-opening.
Our daily program will focus on two key areas – academic support and life skills programs and activities. Plus, we do plan to take advantage of Camp BTI – it’s usually one of the highlights of the summer program."
